Marketing on Threads is different from Pinterest, and treating it the same is costing you clients. If you’ve ever thought Pinterest marketing sounds great for other businesses but not yours, you’re not alone — and you’re not entirely wrong either. You’re just aiming the doubt at the wrong target.
I’ve spent time helping entrepreneurs get found and grow using Pinterest marketing. I’ve also been spending a lot of time on Threads, and I keep noticing the same pattern show up in two different places: talented coaches, healers, and creators who’ve convinced themselves that a platform “just doesn’t work” for their type of business — when what’s actually missing is trust.
Let’s look at both sides of that belief, and how to fix it.
The Belief Hiding Inside “Pinterest Doesn’t Work”
Most entrepreneurs who dismiss Pinterest marketing land in one of two camps:
- “Pinterest doesn’t convert my type of client.”
- “Pinterest doesn’t work for my particular type of business.”
Neither of these is really about Pinterest. They’re both a belief about visibility versus trust — the same belief that shows up, in a different costume, on Threads.
A Story From Threads (That Applies to Pinterest Too)
I saw a Threads post recently from a professional astrologer, publicly trashing other astrologers. It got engagement — comments, reposts, the whole thing. But here’s what stuck with me: if I needed a reading, I wouldn’t trust that person with something so personal.
That’s the trap: the platform rewards conflict because conflict drives engagement, so it’s tempting to build an audience through call-outs and hot takes. It works — short-term. More eyes land on the content. But more visibility isn’t the same as more trust.
Swap “Threads drama” for “Pinterest doesn’t work for my business,” and it’s the same mistake pointed a different direction. On Threads, people chase visibility and mistake it for growth. On Pinterest, people assume a “quiet,” search-based platform can’t build trust fast enough to convert — so they never give it the same trust-building content they’d put anywhere else. Both beliefs quietly limit what’s possible.
The Marketing Golden Rule: Know, Like, Trust
Whether you’re marketing on Threads, Pinterest, or anywhere else, this is the foundation of almost every buying decision:
Know — What do you want potential clients to know about you? Probably not that you’re upset about something that won’t actually help them in their life or business — and probably not “nothing,” which is what happens when your Pinterest presence goes quiet because you’ve decided the platform “doesn’t work.”
Like — Will people like you from your content? Will they read your posts and pins and think, “Yes — I want to see what she creates next. I’m making sure I’m on her list”?
Trust — This is the one that actually converts. You build it by:
- Sharing content that positions you as an expert — clear, useful information that gives people real next steps for their business, relationships, or spiritual practice.
- Sharing personal experience that helps people relate to you and understand themselves better.
- Showing that others already trust you — testimonials and client success stories that speak to real transformation.
Public criticism of your peers doesn’t build any of these three. And neither does writing off a platform before you’ve given it content designed to build trust rather than just get noticed.
What Marketing on Threads Actually Looks Like
I spend most of my own social media time on Threads — it’s where I’m most comfortable, and where I see the best day-to-day engagement. Remember I said social media and Pinterest is a search engine. But marketing on Threads is where I’m seeing the most day-to-day opportunity right now., which is exactly why I don’t want you writing it off before it’s had a fair shot at converting the same way you might with other marketing efforts. The bonus of Pinterest is when I create pins for my clients and then the keep working months and sometimes years after I have hti publish.
